Impact of aggressive driving on vehicle emissions

Research conducted by Emission Analytics shows that missions at high speed can peak at more than ten times typical levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) pollutants. Aggressive driving increases NOx by up to five times on the motorway and 35% on rural roads.

The research has also found that the effect of a cold start on Euro 6 diesels, is that NOx emissions are 2.8 times higher on average during the cold start phase compared to the whole warm start cycle (whether they have been tested under Real Driving Emissions (RDE) regulations or not).

The research has found that during regeneration of the diesel particulate filter NOx emissions are on average 3.3 times higher than in mixed driving with no regeneration.

3 myths about diesel vehicles

Myths

1) At higher altitudes Diesel engines perform the same as petrol engines – Actually, generally, diesel gets better mileage than petrol vehicles. The Diesel vehicles turbocharger plays a big part!

2) Diesel engines have not changed in the last 5 years – Diesel engines have come a long way on the last 30 years, as fuel and engine standards change, so has diesel engines!

3) The type of diesel fuel you use has no impact on exhaust after treatment – Premium diesel fuels can lead to cleaner emissions!

Latest Diesel Models 71% Cleaner than Petrol Models

Latest research by Emissions Analytics has revealed that the latest Euro 6d-Temp diesel models emit, on average, 71% less particulates that petrol equivalents. New diesels also emit 18% less CO2 in real-world testing, according to early testing from Emissions Analytics.
